EA Predicts That Mass Effect: Andromeda Could Sell 3 Million Copies During Launch Week

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be one of 2017’s biggest releases, with publisher EA expecting great things from the game. In fact, EA expect Mass Effect: Andromeda to perform extremely well when it comes to sales at launch, with the company predicting that the game could sell 3 million copies during its first week.

Speaking during the company’s investors call last night to share their Q3 financial results, EA Executive Blake Jorgensen was asked to give a predication of how well the company expects Andromeda to sell when it launches in March.

Jorgensen replied by stating that he expected the game to sell roughly 3 million copies before the end of Q4 as Mass Effect 3 managed lifetime sales of 6 million units.

EA’s financial year runs until the end of March, and as Mass Effect: Andromeda releases just before the last week of Q4 on March 21st, this means that just over the first week of Andromeda sales will be accounted for in EA’s Q4 financial results.

Jorgensen didn’t give an estimate on how EA expect Andromeda to perform when it comes to lifetime sales, although it’s likely to rival Mass Effect 3′s lifetime sales, if not surpass them.

Towards the end of 2016, we saw lots of the year’s biggest releases disappoint when it came to sales with several games, including Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs 2 performing significantly stronger in the weeks following their launch. If the same thing happens with Mass Effect: Andromeda, most of the game’s revenue will be reported in Q1 of EA’s next fiscal year results.

There’s a chance that Andromeda could be released on the Nintendo Switch in the future, however, according to BioWare’s Michael Gamble which could generate further sales and revenue for EA. Speaking to Stevivor, Gamble stated that they wouldn’t “close doors” on a Switch release and would see how the launch goes, but that currently there were no plans to release it on the platform.

“Yeah, not right now, no,” he said. “We’re not planning on it. If the Switch launches and everyone’s just yammering for Mass Effect, who knows.”

“We never want to close doors like that.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 21st.
