“It Would Be Unfair Not to Make The Witcher 4”, Say CD Projekt Red

The Witcher 3 is undoubtedly one of the best games of this generation, having received critical acclaim since its release two years ago in addition to winning 2015’s Game of the Year award. As a result of the game’s huge success and popularity, fans of the franchise will want to know what the future holds for the series now that the last piece of DLC for The Witcher 3 has been released.

With no more DLC in the pipeline, attention has turned towards The Witcher 4 and its potential release, and while CD Projekt Red haven’t officially announced the game, they have all but confirmed that they will be making it at some point in the future…just not for a while.

Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt Red stated on Polish TV that it would be unfair for the studio not to make The Witcher 4, adding that they haven’t abandoned The Witcher series now that the third game has been concluded.

“It would be unfair to fans not to make one,” Kicinski said. “We have been working in this universe for more than a decade now and I do not think it’s going to be the end of it. It is still early to talk about it, but we have not forgotten this series.”

CD Projekt Red are currently working on Cyberpunk 2077, a sci-fi RPG game that isn’t due to release for some time, meaning that any development on The Witcher 4 is unlikely to have already started or at the very most just begun. That means that we might not see The Witcher 4 until after 2020.

In a recent interview with Glixel, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Kicinski spoke briefly about Cyberpunk 2077 where he revealed that the studio hope the game does even better than The Witcher 3. When asked about the jump from The Witcher to The Witcher 2 to The Witcher 3, seeing each game become more ambitious and sophisticated, Kicinski said that they hope the evolution between each game will carry over into Cyberpunk 2077.

“We definitely hope so, but we never want to brag about things before we have something to show.”
