Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Reveal – Multiplayer Gameplay, Blackout Mode and More

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 reveal took place in Los Angeles yesterday. Treyarch unveiled some key information about their new title along with some gameplay trailers. It appears Black Ops 4 will be different to any other previous game in the Call of Duty franchise. Chairman of Treyarch, Mark Lamia, described it as the ‘‘Deepest, most re-playable game in our history.”

It was officially confirmed that Black Ops 4 will not feature a single player campaign. Instead, the game will offer players ‘‘three pillars’’: Multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout.

Multiplayer

Black Ops 4 will of course aim to deliver the high standard of multiplayer content the Call of Duty series is known for. This time around we’ll see boots on the ground combat, meaning that there will be no wall running or thrust jumping as seen in some of the previous titles. Plus, Specialists that were introduced in Black Ops 3 will return along with the pick 10 class system, which offers players extra freedom in customising their loadouts.

From Call of Duty website: ”Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 Multiplayer raises the bar, delivering the most thrilling grounded combat experience yet with a focus on tactical gameplay and player choice. The game offers a new level of online action across a variety of new weaponry, maps and modes. For the first time Multiplayer serves as the center of the game’s narrative, as players uncover a deeper connection to the role of each Specialist and their unique playstyles.”

Zombies

Zombies in Black Ops 4 will offer 3 full experiences at launch: IX, Voyage of the Despair and Blood of the Dead.

IX is set in a gladiatorial arena and will feature some sword and shield combat. Voyage of Despair will take place on an ill-fated trans-Atlantic cruise ship and Blood of the Dead is inspired by the popular Zombie map from Black Ops 2, Mob of the Dead. The classic map which featured players breaking out of an incarnation of Alcatraz Prison. All three experiences offer solo play along with four player co-op.

Call of Duty website: ”With an exciting new adventure and a brand-new cast of characters, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Zombies will feature the deep gameplay and easter eggs that its fans have come to expect.”

Blackout

Blackout is the brand-new Black Ops themed Battle Royale mode. With the recent success of the battle royale genre in games like Fortnite and PUBG, Treyarch have decided to feature their own variation. Players will go to war with a large number of opponents to become the last man standing in Call of Duty’s biggest ever map, it’s said to be ”1500 times bigger than Nuketown”.

Continued from Call of Duty site: ”In Blackout, Black Ops comes to life in one massive battle royale experience, combining Black Ops signature combat and the biggest map in Call of Duty history. Play as fan favorite characters and battle through iconic settings from the Black Ops universe. It’s a collision course bringing together the worlds of Black Ops in an all-out survival and elimination experience featuring weapons; equipment; land, sea, and air vehicles; RC-XDs; traps; and even Zombies in an experience that is uniquely Black Ops.”

Treyarch have worked with Blizzard, developers of Overwatch, to enhance the PC experience by bringing the latest Call of Duty title exclusively to Battle.net. This means the title will not be featured on Steam. The game will be integrated with all of the Battle.net features. Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan recently stated that Blizzard and Treyarch have been friends for many years. They consulted Treyarch for several features whist they were working on Overwatch. Kaplan said, “With all the features of Battle.net, I think it’s going to be pretty amazing what Black Ops 4 is going to have to offer.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled to release on October 12th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
