The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt RED to be bought by EA? (Rumour)

Following the huge success of The Witcher 3 along with CD Projekt RED’s work on GOG.com, is it possible that EA could be sniffing around to purchase the studio and their assets? Well according to one employee of the studio, that may be the case.

However this is very much a rumour but makes interesting reading nonetheless. According to DSOG, an employee of the studio contacted them proving his identity and revealed that representatives from EA were currently visiting CD Projekt RED and meeting with top management. As he says there is no game releasing anytime soon, he says it is unlikely it is to be over a publishing deal, leaving the possibility that EA may be about to table an offer for them.

Speaking to DSOG, the employee claimed, “I’m employee of CDProjekt Red and I have some bad news to share with you. Our management is probably talking with Electronic Arts about potential take over. Electronic Arts representatives are currently visiting our studio and meeting with top management.”

“We are not going to release any game soon, so for sure it’s not about any publishing deal, so the only possible reason for EA guys being here is that they want to buy us,” he added.

It is impossible to tell why EA are visiting the studio until any announcements are made in the future regarding whatever the visit may have been about, although there are other possible explanations other than EA trying to buy out CD Projekt RED. The meeting could be to iron out a deal between Origin and GOG which may see EA games be available on the upcoming platform or it may just be for over a potential publishing deal for the future.

Only time will tell and who knows, nothing may come from this at all.

Marcin Momot took to Twitter to dismiss the rumours however, saying that the “informer” had a better insight than the founder of the studio, Marcin Iwiński.
