Ubisoft Confirm They Will Be Revealing New Ghost Recon Game Later This Week

Last week Ubisoft teased the announcement of a brand new game and confirmed that they will be hosting a reveal event for it on May 9th.

Since then, speculation about which franchise the new game will belong to has been rife, and the release of a teaser website didn’t provide any clarification. The website, if anything, caused more confusion, with gamers debating whether or not this new game would be a Ghost Recon title, a brand new Splinter Cell or if it was related to Watch Dogs 3, which we know is coming later this year. Along with the teaser website, Ubisoft also held a free weekend for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands to celebrate the release of several new story missions in Operation Oracle.

Ubisoft has now confirmed on Twitter that they will be announcing a new game in the Ghost Recon franchise. While this doesn’t come as much of a surprise given how Ubisoft ramped up marketing for Ghost Recon: Wildlands over the weekend, it has finally provided clarification.

While we know that it will be a new Ghost Recon game, we still don’t know for sure what direction the game will be going in. Until the release of Wildlands, Ghost Recon games had tended to be rather linear. Given the success of Ghost Recon: Wildlands, however, the most obvious announcement would be for a sequel to the game. Even if it’s not a direct sequel to Wildlands, it will be interesting to see whether or not Ubisoft keep with the open-world theme, or if they go back to a more linear experience as seen previously.

You can watch the live reveal on May 9th at 11.30 PT. For those in the UK, that’s 7.30pm.
